at Pancake Lane

Leverstock Green earned a welcome win over Langford at Pancake Lane which keeps alive their hopes of a top six finish, and in the process they scored their 87th league goal of the season - their highest since joining the South Midlands League in 1991, and indeed their highest in any league season since 1971.

Langford made the stronger start, with Gary Connolly having to clear off the line in the 4th minute from Dave Ralph's close-range shot. However, it was Green that opened the scoring in the 9th minute. A long kick from Graeme Milner found David Parkinson on the right wing, and Parkinson ran down the line before sending a superb cross to the far post for Charlie Gorman to head home his 6th goal of the season and his third in successive games.

The lead could have been doubled two minutes later. Kenny Hull played the ball out of defence to Matt Wardle, who trapped the ball and turned in one movement before threading a pass through to James Armstrong, but his early shot went over the bar. On 13 minutes Gorman flicked on a free kick from Milner into the path of Armstrong, who found the net this time but was denied by the linesman's offside flag.

Instead the scores were level a minute later. A rash challenge from Parkinson chopped down Liam Errington near the bye-line. The referee pointed straight to the penalty spot, and Rob Groves netted the spot-kick for a 1-1 scoreline.

Green went close again on 25 minutes. Gorman's free kick dropped for Daniel Griggs, whose shot was tipped onto the post by keeper Dan Eely, who then caught the full force of the rebound in his face, but the ball still stayed out. On 42 minutes a fine ball down the channel from Gorman put Armstrong in, but his shot was straight at Eely. However, a minute before the break Parkinson won a challenge in midfield, and the ball ricocheted into the path of Armstrong, who this time ran on to stroke the ball past Eely to put Green back in front at 2-1.

There was still time for Langford's Joe Delasalle to head just over the bar from a corner, and Gorman to shoot into the side netting during first half stoppage time.

On 52 minutes a deflected shot from Delasalle was turned away by Milner. Green defended the resulting corner poorly, but Delasalle somehow missed from a yard out as the ball went across the face of goal. It looked like another goal would be necessary, and it arrived on 56 minutes from the penalty spot after Delasalle upended Matt Wardle inside the box. Daniel Griggs took the penalty and notched the goal that broke the scoring record and made the scoreline 3-1.

It was almost four on 61 minutes when a deflected shot from Armstrong went inches over the bar, and from the resulting corner Lee Waryszniuk's header was tipped over the bar by Eely.

Green seemed to be cruising to victory, but a sloppy ball on 79 minutes put them in trouble. Lee Pateman intercepted and played in Groves, who smacked home his second goal from outside the box to reduce the arrears to 3-2.

A minute later, Alex Kinsley came off the bench for his first team debut, and two minutes later the former Tring Town striker played a superb ball to put Armstrong through on goal, only for Eely to deny him with a save. After five previous 3-3 draws this season, Green supporters could have been forgiven for fearing the worst, but Milner saved a header from Lee Harman on 88 minutes, and Green held on through more than six minutes of stoppage time to record a win that takes them back up to 5th place in the table.
