Leverstock Green's season finally seems to be up and running after they recorded a convincing 4-0 win away to Biggleswade United. The margin of victory did not flatter the Green at all as they dominated the game throughout, played some great football, and even missed a penalty and a number of other good chances along the way.

The game took a while to get going although Leverstock had a chance in the 8th minute when Biggleswade defender Chris Balasz was slow to clear a ball on the edge of his own box. Adam Hallissey got his boot in first, but keeper Kevin Lane saved. Three minutes later Andrew Cracknell thumped a header against the crossbar from a corner. On 26 minutes a ball over the top put Louis Austin in behind the last defender. Austin took the ball round Lane, but shot wide of the target.

The only thing missing from the Green performance was a goal, and they soon arrived. On 31 minutes Austin made a great run down the right before putting over a cross. Cracknell was about to finish, only for Lane to palm the ball away from his feet, however the loose ball fell for Lee Stobbs, who showed the composure to sidefoot the ball home from six yards out to open the scoring.

The lead was doubled three minutes later in spectacular style by Charlie Gorman, who beat a couple of defenders on a weaving run before cracking a shot from outside the box which curled out of Lane's reach into the bottom corner of the net. It was a superb way for Gorman to score his first goal since returning to the club this summer.

Two minutes later the home side might have pulled one back, but Steve Hatch cleared Sean Murray' shot off the line, and Murray's effort on the rebound was saved by Green keeper Gareth Tinsley. Instead Green added another goal themselves before the break. On 41 minutes Austin's pass put Cracknell in with a run at goal, and it was another great finish as Cracknell took the ball round Lane before slotting into the empty net for a 3-0 half time lead.

Biggleswade never looked like getting back into the game, and it seemed only a matter of how many more Green could score in the second half. On 56 minutes Austin made a run towards the bye-line and hit a shot towards the near post but Lane turned it away. Steve Heath made a double substitution on 63 minutes, bringing on Steve Hutchins and Gary Connolly, and Green immediately added their fourth goal. Gorman floated a free kick into the box, where Bill Morgan won a header at the far post and got in a shot as the ball landed. That was blocked, but the rebound fell for Austin, who turned and shot home a well-deserved goal.

There should have been another goal four minutes later, but Connolly missed a sitter as he headed wide from Gorman's free kick. On 70 minutes Connolly was unlucky as his curling shot was tipped away from the top corner by Lane. Lewis Pritchard then replaced Cracknell, and shot just wide within a minute of coming on.

On 79 minutes a great ball into the box from Dan Picknell found Pritchard, who couldn't get his shot away, but laid back for Connolly, who shot wide from a good position. Four minutes from time a pass from Hutchins put Austin through on goal. Austin was fouled in the box, but the referee played advantage. When Austin's shot went wide the referee went back and awarded the penalty, but the chance was wasted as Hutchins shanked the penalty wide of the goal.

In stoppage time there were further near-misses from Hatch and Pritchard, but this was still a great confidence-boosting performance and will send Green into their next games in good stead.
