Match Report
Saturday 5th February 2011 Molten Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division
Haringey Borough (0) 1 Boal 63
Leverstock Green (0) 0
at Coles Park

Leverstock Green will be glad to see the back of Coles Park this season. The Green visited this ground in November to play Kentish Town and lost 1-0 in a dire game. Having won six out of six league games since then, Leverstock returned to play Haringey, but it was another below-par display and another 1-0 defeat.

The pitch was in better shape than in November, but it was still a bumpy surface which, combined with a strong wind, made football very difficult. The game was far from a classic and there were few chances.

Steve Heath gave a debut to new signing Sonny Aird, in what was still a strong line-up. Most of the pressure in the first half came from Haringey, who had the wind in their favour. Carl Tasker only had one real save to make though, in the 13th minute when he did well to claim and hold onto a free kick from Theo Charalambus with several players following in for any rebound.

In the 21st minute Dan Griggs threaded a pass to Louis Austin, who seemed to have got clear of the two chasing defenders, but was brought down just outside the box. Charlie Gorman took the free kick, but it was deflected over the bar. Another shot from Gorman two minutes later was comfortably fielded by keeper Brian Sealey. The Green were forced into an early change with Steve Hutchins replacing the injured Dan Boyle on 32 minutes.

Leverstock had some pressure early in the second half, and their chances looked to have improved when Sealey had to leave the game with an injury on 55 minutes, his place between the sticks taken by Jamaine Edwards. However, it was Haringey that took control. On 53 minutes Carl Tasker saved with his legs when Dave Boal put Demetri Stratis through on goal, but five minutes later Boal ran onto a chipped pass from Marvin Walker and slipped the ball past Tasker into the net to put Haringey into the lead.

Disappointingly, Leverstock failed to test the sub keeper at all during the rest of the game. Free kicks and crosses ended up flying out for goal kicks, as the game petered out to a dull conclusion. The Green simply didn't get going today.

Next Saturday sees the biggest day in the club's history as they host Rye United in the fifth round of the FA Vase. Before then on Tuesday night they are at home to Hatfield Town in a league match.
