Leverstock Green (0) 3 Gorman 66, Austin 83, 90+3
Aylesbury United (0) 0
at Pancake Lane

Leverstock Green moved up two places to fifth in the SSML Premier Division table as three second half goals gained them a well-deserved three points against Aylesbury United at Pancake Lane. A lot of hard work on the pitch enabled the game to go ahead, and despite muddy patches in the middle, plenty of good football was played on the night.

The visitors were quicker out of the blocks and almost took the lead within two minutes. A cross from the right found Paul Edgeworth on the edge of the box, and his volley forced a save from Gareth Tinsley, who turned it round the post. From the resulting corner a Ben Baines header bounced up onto the bar.

Leverstock had a free kick in a dangerous position on 10 minutes, but Charlie Gorman's effort was comfortably saved by keeper Jack Sillitoe. Ten minutes later Sillitoe spilled a cross from Gorman, but Justin Gordon cleared the loose ball from the goalmouth before anyone could take advantage. On 37 minutes Warren Garcia's free kick to the far post was headed off the line by Steve Hatch, and two minutes before the break Louis Austin had a good chance from a Green corner but shot over the bar.

The game was goalless after an evenly-matched first half, and continued so until Steve Heath brought on some extra firepower. Lewis Pritchard replaced Dan Boyle on 63 minutes, and Green stepped up a gear. Three minutes later a run from Austin was ended by a shirt pull from a Ducks defender, and Lee Bircham floated the resulting free kick into the box. It just eluded Austin, but dropped inside the six-yard box where Gorman was quickest to react and shot home the loose ball to put Leverstock into a 1-0 lead.

There could have been a second goal four minutes later when Austin went on another run and his cross was parried by Sillitoe, but Joey Acheampong got to the rebound just before Pritchard to clear. There was a lengthy injury stoppage fifteen minutes from time when former Leverstock youth team player Jack Wood was caught on the back of the head at very close range from a Jon Davies piledriver. Wood initially continued with his head bandaged, but was substituted a few minutes later.

The second goal eventually arrived on 83 minutes, created by Pritchard who ran down the right touchline before squaring into the box, where Austin calmly slotted past Sillitoe into the corner of the net.

A third goal deep into stoppage time was icing on the cake for Green. Another Bircham free kick was flicked on to Pritchard on the far side of the penalty area, and he floated the ball back into the box for Austin to head home his 28th goal of the season and confirm another excellent win for Steve Heath's side.

This was the first of three games in five days as the Green's busy schedule continues, weather permitting they travel to St Margaretsbury on Thursday night and Colney Heath on Saturday.
