Leverstock Green entertained league leaders Chalfont St Peter in Saturday's SSML Premier Division game at Pancake Lane, and inevitably for the two teams with the highest goals-per-game ratio in the division, the match ended goalless. It was a well-earned point for the Green, but the game itself had few chances, and the two teams cancelled each other out over the course of the match.

Two of the top goalscorers in the division were on display here, but Louis Austin found himself closely marked by at least two Chalfont defenders throughout the game, and likewise Chalfont striker Charlie Strutton was well-handled by the Green defence.

As far as the game went, there were a few near misses for Leverstock in the first half. Louis West got a header to a Lee Bircham corner on 13 minutes, but it went across goal and wide. Ben Butler hit a long-range effort just wide on 24 minutes. West had to leave the game injured on 30 minutes to be replaced by Bill Morgan.

The best chance for Leverstock came in first half stoppage time, when Charlie Gorman played a chipped pass to put Steve Hatch through. Hatch lobbed the advancing keeper Mark Oliver, but the ball landed wide of the target.

Chalfont had the better chances in the second half. On 48 minutes a free kick from Adam Louth went through the hands of Green keeper Gareth Tinsley, but Morgan was behind him to clear off the line. On 77 minutes, substitute Ryan Welsh got away from the Green defence but hit his eventual shot into the side netting.

Seven minutes from time Green almost lost it when a clearance from Mark Shadbolt rebounded off Hatch to fall kindly for Daniel Hughes, but his curling shot across goal didn't quite curl enough to get inside the post.

The final whistle brought to an end a game that won't live long in the memory, but showed again that this Leverstock Green side are a match for any side in the division.
