Match Report
Tuesday 29th March 2011 Molten Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division
Stotfold (1) 1 Bronti 14
Leverstock Green (1) 2 Pritchard 26, Hatch 82
at Roker Park

Leverstock Green's superb run of results continued as they came from behind again to win at Stotfold in Tuesday night's SSML Premier Division game. It was a seventh straight win for the Green - their longest run of the season after two previous streaks of six wins. For the second straight game Steve Hatch was the hero as he came off the bench to net a late winner.

As in several recent games, Leverstock fell behind early on after an uncertain start. A ball into the box by Stuart Lochhead should have been cleared but wasn't, and Josh Bronti nipped in to knock the ball past Gareth Tinsley and put his side ahead in the 14th minute.

It could have been two a couple of minutes later when Lochhead received a long throw on the edge of the six yard box, but his shot on the turn went across the face of goal and just wide. Leverstock started to play their way into the game and went close on 20 minutes when Jon Davies curled a free kick into the box and Louis Austin headed just wide.

The equaliser came on 26 minutes and it owed a lot to Dan Boyle, who started a run on the halfway line and kept going, at one stage looking like he was going to dribble through the whole Stotfold defence, but eventually slipping the ball through to Lewis Pritchard, who slotted home under keeper Brad Gillham for his 15th goal of the season.

There was another chance on 34 minutes when Pritchard chased a ball from Charlie Gorman to the bye-line, and pulled it back for Austin, but his shot was deflected wide off a defender's boot. Stotfold should have gone back in front in first half stoppage time when a corner dropped for Bronti inside the six yard box, but his first shot came back off the post and his second effort was kept out by Tinsley's legs.

The game was evenly-matched so far, and continued so in the second half. Green picked up two bookings early in the half as both Austin and Dan Griggs were shown yellow cards for protesting too much to the referee. On 57 minutes a ball out of defence by Davies set up a two-against-two break as Pritchard and Austin threatened, but Pritchard's attempted square ball was blocked. Two minutes later a mistake by Ben Butler allowed Dean Hamilton to break away, but Butler did well to chase back and block Hamilton's eventual shot. Butler was involved again on 74 minutes when a cross from Griggs found him at the near post, but his clipped shot was saved by Gillham.

With 15 minutes left Steve Heath made a change, replacing Davies with Steve Hatch, and it proved to be a masterstroke. Two minutes later Green were on the attack as Pritchard nodded the ball through to Austin on the edge of the box. Austin laid off to Griggs, who threaded a pass between two defenders to find Hatch, and the 17-year old produced another great finish as he shot past Gillham to put Leverstock in the driving seat at 2-1.

There was some controversy about the goal, as Stotfold defender Ryan Ellis was knocked unconscious in the build-up in a head-to-head collision with Pritchard, but the referee did not stop the game. After a five-minute delay Ellis recovered, but had to be stretchered off. There was almost a third goal in the last minute as Austin hit a shot from a narrow angle which went across goal and just wide, but Leverstock successfully hung on throughout stoppage time to record another impressive win.

March is still not over for Steve Heath's side - they play their tenth game of the month on Thursday night at home to Biggleswade Town and will be hoping to complete an unbeaten month.
