Saturday 27th August 2011 Molten Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division
Leverstock Green (0) 2 Pritchard 53, 80
Broxbourne Borough (0) 0
at Pancake Lane

Leverstock Green continued their perfect start to their league campaign as a second half double from Lewis Pritchard clinched a 2-0 win over Broxbourne Borough at Pancake Lane. The Green are one of only two clubs remaining with a 100% record, and are second in the Premier Division on goals scored behind Royston Town, the other club with 12 points from four games. This was another well-deserved win from an all-round solid and disciplined performance, with plenty of good football to entertain the Green followers.

Steve Heath had a reduced squad to select from today, with Dan Griggs and Adam Hallissey both being unavailable, and Louis Austin will be sidelined for at least a few weeks after a knee operation yesterday.

Leverstock wasted no time in pushing forward from the kick-off, and Lee Stobbs put a shot over the bar with less than 20 seconds on the clock. The visitors had a chance in the 8th minute when Jordan Watson burst through a couple of challenges into the box but then shot over the bar. Another shot went over the bar a minute later, but Jon Davies' dipping long-range effort was the closest yet.

Pritchard had two good chances from one-on-ones, firstly in the 15th minute when he shot over, and then four minutes later when Paul Insley put him through, but keeper Edward Thompson dived low to his right to save Pritchard's shot.

Carl Tasker had to palm away a dangerous corner and free kick, and Broxbourne might have had a penalty in the 28th minute when Steve Hatch appeared to handle in the box, but neither the referee nor linesman were well-placed to see it. There were more good chances for Leverstock before the break. On 31 minutes a great ball from Hatch put Insley through on goal, but he shot wide, and three minutes from half time Davies was clean through but Thompson saved again.

The deadlock was finally broken eight minutes into the second half. Ben Butler won the ball just inside the opposition half, and played a great pass to put Pritchard in behind the defence, and this time Pritchard kept his composure to dink the ball over the oncoming keeper, putting the Green into a long-overdue lead.

Broxbourne immediately responded with a double substitution, with dangerous forward Bradley Drisdale one of the players coming on. Drisdale's pace caused problems down the left, but his only efforts on goal came from a narrow angle and were well dealt with by Tasker and his defence.

The second goal arrived ten minutes from time, as youngsters Insley and Glenn Thompson combined to set up Pritchard, who was given time and space to unleash a tremendous shot from outside the box that flew over the keeper's outstretched arm into the top corner of the net for a spectacular strike.

Pritchard might have completed his hat-trick in the last minute when Thompson put him through, but this time he shot across goal and wide. The game finished in torrential rain, but it wasn't enough to dampen the spirits of the Green players, who now travel to Potters Bar to play Hadley on Wednesday night.
