Match Report
Saturday 14th January 2012 Molten Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division
Leverstock Green (0) 0
AFC Dunstable (1) 2 Ryan 23, Christie 58
at Pancake Lane

For the second Saturday running Leverstock Green came up against top quality opposition, this time it was third-placed AFC Dunstable. Again they came away with no points or goals to show for their efforts, although this was a better performance than the one at Royston.

The visitors dominated the early part of the match, and Carl Tasker had to produce a good save in the 10th minute to keep out a header from Dan Ryan. Leverstock's first promising break came in the 19th minute as Lewis Pritchard pushed forward and fed the ball to Junior Owusu-Akonor, who took on a defender inside the box but had his eventual shot blocked.

On 22 minutes Tasker had to backpedal to tip a long-distance cross from Wayne Mills over the bar, but from the resulting corner Ryan connected with a header that looped over Tasker to put AFC Dunstable into a 1-0 lead.

Pritchard had a decent effort at goal on 32 minutes, his dipping shot landing just over the bar, but it was the visitors who looked more like scoring. Richard Harker shot wide from a good position on 40 minutes, and in stoppage time BJ Christie turned on the edge of the box and hit a shot which Tasker had to tip over the bar.

Steve Heath made a change at half time, replacing Adam Hallissey with Ben Butler, returning to the side for his first game since suffering an injury at Hillingdon on 3rd December. The change seemed to be working as the Green made a strong start to the second half. Five minutes in Butler played a neat pass to give Paul Insley a run at goal, but Insley hit his eventual shot straight at keeper Nick Gardner.

An equaliser was looking increasingly likely as Leverstock were playing some good football, with Butler instrumental in it, however another unfortunate goal conceded against the run of play on 58 minutes killed off their chances. AFC cleared the ball from their own box as far as the halfway line, where Insley decided to pass back to Tasker. As Tasker came out of his area to meet it the ball took a nasty bobble, and Tasker's clearance was charged down by Moses Olaleye, with a strong suspicion of handball. Olaleye chased down the rebound and squared it for Christie, who had an easy finish into the empty net for a 2-0 lead.

Leverstock might have got back in the game two minutes later but Gardner produced a good save to keep out a shot from Bekim Culaj. For the remainder of the game the Green got into plenty of good positions, but were generally lacking the quality to turn them into chances.

Three minutes from time a neat move set up a chance for Dan Griggs, but his shot was deflected wide. AFC Dunstable always looked dangerous on the break, with Harker hitting the bar with a shot a minute later, and Hayden Wills forcing another save out of Tasker in stoppage time.

Leverstock are in need of some league results to maintain their top six placing, and they will hope to start picking them up with next Saturday's visit to Oxhey Jets.
