Leverstock Green (0) 0
at Roker Park

Carl Tasker was the hero for Leverstock Green with a last-gasp penalty save to preserve a point for his side and end their run of five straight defeats. It would have been a travesty for the Green to have lost in this manner after their best performance for weeks in an entertaining game.

Leverstock played good football throughout the game and had plenty of chances. In the 21st minute a cross from Dan Griggs fell for James Bent inside the box, but Bent's shot was blocked. Stotfold had their share of chances as well. Two minutes later a quick break from a Leverstock corner led to Lewis Holmes going clean through, but he shot wide.

On 30 minutes Ben Butler hit a shot just over the bar, and two minutes later Butler played a ball into the box for Louis Austin, who slotted home neatly but the flag had already been raised for offside. On 33 minutes Stotfold looked set to score as a pass from Holmes put Sean Herr through on goal only for Tasker to dive low to his right to tip over Herr's shot with a brilliant one-handed save. A minute later it was opposing keeper Brad Gillham's turn to make a save as Austin was through on goal. Gillham got enough of a hand on Austin's shot to slow it down and Billy Baird completed the clearance off the line.

Lewis Pritchard replaced Austin, who was taken off at half time with a slight injury, and Leverstock continued to create chances in the second half. On 65 minutes a cross from Butler wasn't cleared and dropped to Steve Hatch at the far post, but Gillham saved. Two minutes later Mark Shadbolt threaded a pass to Max Farrelly, but he slotted the ball just wide of the post. The best chance of all came on 73 minutes when Butler slipped a pass through to Pritchard, who caught his shot well but couldn't keep it under the bar. Stotfold should have scored two minutes later when the Green defence switched off at a free kick to leave Lee Harman with a free header from close range, which he put wide.

As the game moved into stoppage time it was Stotfold who looked more like winning it. Mark Ellis went clean through but brought another great save out of Tasker, who seconds later had to tip a cross from Herr over the bar.

In the fifth minute of stoppage time Leverstock couldn't clear the ball from the edge of their own box. Harman broke into the penalty area but was brought down by a tackle from Ross Miller. It was a clear penalty, and surprisingly Miller as the last man didn't receive any card. Andy Carter stepped up to take the penalty, but Tasker guessed right and dived to his left to turn it round the post. It turned out to be the last kick of the game as the referee blew for time immediately before the corner could be taken.

The result, and in particular the ending will be a great morale-booster for Steve Heath's side, who face neighbours Hemel Hempstead Town in the semi-finals of the St Mary's Cup at Pancake Lane on Tuesday night.
