Leverstock Green (1) 2 Davies 40, Dizon 81
Hertford Town (0) 0
at Pancake Lane

Leverstock Green finally added some home points to their league tally as they beat Hertford Town for their first home win of the season on Tuesday night.

Hertford came into this match with five new players in their squad, four of them in the starting line-up. They had the better of the early stages of the match as they put the Green defence under pressure and forced some mistakes. In the opening minute Malachi Brissett chased down a kick from David Bailey and the ball rebounded just over the bar. In the 5th minute a shot from Kardan Campbell was headed off the line. Bailey also had to make a couple of saves from long-range shots.

Leverstock's first effort on goal came on 19 minutes, a long-range free kick from Jon Davies which was fielded by the keeper. Hertford's Arnaldo Graci was booked for the high challenge which led to the free kick, a few minutes after Campbell was lucky to get away without a yellow for a strong challenge on Patrick Fromant. Davies himself was booked for a rash challenge a minute later.

The first bit of good football from the Green came in the 25th minute, as James Dabbs pulled off a neat drag-back before threading a pass to Fromant, who squared it for Curt Dizon, but he shot wide with only the keeper to beat. On 33 minutes Adiel Mannion went on a great run at the Hertford defence before laying off to Dabbs, who hit a fierce shot which rebounded off the inside of the post across goal, where Dizon somehow managed to put the ball over the bar.

Dizon himself went on a run down the left on 38 minutes before putting in a cross which flashed across the Hertford goal and just eluded Davies. However, two minutes later a free kick was played to the edge of the box, where Adam Hallissey shielded the ball and laid it back to Davies, who connected with a superb shot from 20 yards that flew into the net to put Leverstock into a 1-0 lead in spectacular style.

On 43 minutes a great pass from Davies put Hallissey away to send over another cross which flashed across goal. Mannion put in another dangerous cross in the last minute of the break as Leverstock went into the break on top despite having absorbed a lot of pressure from a Hertford side who didn't create the chance their possession merited.

The second half saw fewer efforts at goal from both sides. Dizon shot just wide after a run at goal in the opening minutes, but much of the half was played in Leverstock territory as Hertford kept them penned in their own half but again rarely threatened Bailey's goal.

The Green side was patient with their football and eventually began to find a way out of their own half. Finally in the 81st minute they fashioned a second goal to cushion their lead. Hallissey played a one-two with Davies before crossing into the six-yard box where Dizon forced the ball home at the second attempt after his first effort was blocked.

The only disappointment of the night was the sight of Davies pulling up with a hamstring injury four minutes from time having had an excellent game. Leverstock increased their points tally to 15 from 8 games, and on Saturday they face another home game as newly-promoted Ampthill Town visit Pancake Lane.
