Leverstock Green Ladies continued their winning ways with a resounding league victory over Sawbridgeworth at home on Sunday, which sees them elevated to fifth in the Eastern Region Premier League.

The first half was a closely fought contest with the visitors denied on several occasions by a stout Leverstock Green defence led by Jo Williams and Steph Belcher. Right back Sapphire Kalinski pulled up on 38 minutes with a thigh strain and following a reshuffle, super striker Nic Hollick was introduced. Hollick took a mere 14 seconds to make an impact breaking the deadlock and rewarding the Green Army with a first half lead that was not altogether deserved.

Fifteen minutes after the restart and player of the match Giselle Subryan doubled Levy's lead following some strong wide play from both the left and right hand sides of the field courtesy of Gemma Coggins and Lucy Tape. Acting right back Heather Eaton was unfortunate to provide the visitors with a slim chance to get back in the game with a tackle that resulted in Sawbridgeworth being awarded a penalty. Goalkeeper Jess Devoti became the hero yet again for Levy, producing a fine save low to her right to deny the visitors a potential comeback opportunity.

Midfield maestro Charlene Turturici caused the visitors problems throughout the match with an assortment of through-balls and long and short passes but it was Sally Green's through-ball that provided Subryan with an opportunity to add another to her goal tally, which she duly converted after 87 minutes.

This was not the finest display from Levy Ladies but in swirling wind and squelchy underfoot conditions, the ladies ensured they maintained their winning run remaining unbeaten since the first week of December. The game also provided another opportunity for a strong performance from Kelly Randall, who played her second 65 minutes in two weeks, following a serious knee injury, which has had her sidelined for the best part of a year.

Next week sees two Leverstock Green ladies sides play one another for the very first time in their history in the County Cup semi-final, which will be played at Pancake Lane next Sunday afternoon.
