Report by Peter Berman

After a number of postponements due to the amount of rain we've had so far this year, Leverstock Green's game at home to Kings Langley was finally given the all clear to be played tonight, but it was a disappointing result from their point of view, although it must be considered that they were up against a very strong opponent.

Kings Langley only needed a point to win the league, and that must have been in the visitor's minds throughout the game. It was Levy Green though who made the faster start, and Luke Warner-Eley had the ball in the back of the net with barely a minute on the clock, but he was ruled offside. Shortly afterwards, Josh Hart had a chance, but his shot was saved. After seven minutes, Hart was in again, and caused problems in the Kings Langley defence with a cross that was intended for Charlie Price, but the visitors were just about able to clear their lines.

There was action at the other end too, and just as it looked like Green had cleared their lines from a corner, Elliot Richardson fired in the rebound, but Kieron Clayton was well positioned to make the save. Unfortunately though it was Langley who made the breakthrough, and in the 13th minute Harry Slade found a way through the defence to put his team ahead.

That was the beginning of a really strong period for Langley, who went on to dominate the rest of the half. Matt Bateman ensured that they gained what at the time seemed to be a tight grip on the lead by claiming a brace, with goals in the 26th and 38th minutes, and although Charlie Halls and Les Barkers-Obua both had chances for Green, they didn't look like getting back into the game, as Kings Langley goalkeeper Lewis Williams simply wasn't being worked hard enough.

This certainly wasn't true of their performance in the second half however, and on another night they may have drawn level. Clearly whatever was said at half time had made difference. Eli Kefas had the first chance of the half, forcing a save from Williams with a spectacular long range shot. Even when Kings Langley scored their fourth through Kane Axten, Levy didn't give up, and they got a much deserved goal back in the 74th minute courtesy of Billy Gardner.

In the 77th minute, Iheanyi Ejimofri looked like he was about to claim Levy's second, but his shot was just wide. It wasn't long before their second goal did come though, and in the 84th minute Luke Warner-Eley's free kick caused a goal line scramble, and it was Gardner who came through to score, completing his brace.

Levy Green will feel disappointed with tonight's result, but ultimately a 4-2 defeat to the team that has won the league by gaining that result is still a respectable scoreline, especially as their second half performance could have gained them so much more if they'd had a little more luck.
