at Vale Farm

Report by Graham Smart

The pitch at Vale Park looked perfect for a game of football and from the ground you could see the famous Wembley Arch.

Wembley Stadium has seen many epic cup matches and this game not far from the ground was proven to be one of these.

Leverstock Green arrived with the bare number of players to form the team but what a team they proved to be - full of guts and determination with never-ending running and a fierce determination to get something out of the game.

The eleven players started the game and it was quick, fast and fluent with both teams going for goals but the nearest any team got was when Levy had a shot cleared off the line and Wembley hit the post and with one remarkable save from Kieron Clayton in goal the half time whistle blew with equal scores.

The second half was the same as the first with the meagre number of spectators plus a couple of scouts from Watford enjoying a game which swung from end to end.

The eleven players of Leverstock Green were by now beginning to feel the lack of substitutions whilst Wembley were using their five tactically to their best advantage.

Before the final whistle blew quite a few players from both sides were suffering with cramp and the last thing they wanted was the game to go to extra time but this is what happened and tired legs and aching bodies were forced to carry on.

The game continued in the same fashion, and Wembley were beginning to mount more attacks but the Leverstock Green defence marshalled by centre half Billy Gardner kept them at bay. Shortly after half time the deciding goal was scored by a superb header by Charlie Price from a wonderful cross from the right wing.

The remaining eight minutes were with Wembley pushing hard for the equalizer which would send the game to penalties and had a shot come back off the bottom of the post and the frustration was building up when a over zealous tackle by the Wembley 5 earned him a second yellow card.

The last few minutes saw Levy Green hold out for a hard fought victory.

You could not award a Man Of The Match every player deserved it.

WELL DONE BOYS - a great advert for the club.

A fantastic team effort from the players who gave their all on the night and never stopped running, showing true grit and determination but also from the bench and the few supporters who encouraged the boys to the very end.

A superb victory and in the next round we are away to Colney Heath on Wednesday 19 03 14.

Leverstock Green: Kieron Clayton, Tom Butler, Luke Warner-Eley, Josh Hart, Billy Gardner, Mehdi Ellattiou, Alieu Gibril, Jamal Adu, Charlie Price, Zak Marshall(C), Iheanie Ejimofor.
