Biggleswade United (1) 1 Eboji 13
at Pancake Lane

Report by Peter Berman

It was an action packed game at Pancake Lane yesterday, with both teams looking to put together a strong end-of-season run, though Leverstock Green's form had been slightly the better of the two recently.

Green had a chance to score as early as the very first minute, but Dave Sexton's shot was too high. After that, the teams looked fairly evenly matched, and it was another ten minutes before either created another chance. Suddenly though, Biggleswade had a change in fortunes, and created three quickfire chances in as many minutes, and where Nick Threadgold and Tony Cookman failed, Jude Eboji succeeded. Initially it was Cookman who had created the third chance, but when he was tackled the ball fell nicely for Eboji, who was well placed to put his team ahead.

Levy responded well to this, and although the game was a bit slow for a while, they were much the stronger team by the end of the half. Their first big chance came in the 42nd minute, when Chad Pinching's free kick forced a save from Grant Beckwith, who had to be on his feet again quickly enough to save the rebound from Callum Wright. The ball was eventually cleared, but Shaq Agada was straight back in for Green, only to be ruled offside.

The deserved equaliser was only minutes away though, and just on the stroke of half time Wright's cross found Harry Henley, who squared the ball into the box, where Prince Alozie fired it into the back of the net with what was virtually the last kick of the half.

Just as they had done in the first half, Green claimed the first chance of the second, this time through a header by Elliot Braithwaite. Shortly afterwards, Alozie went on a great run, beating Ross Scotney, with whom he seemed to be winning his personal battle for control of the right wing, and he finished with a perfectly executed cross to Agada, but the striker's shot was dealt with by Beckwith.

Biggleswade too looked like they might claim the winner, and came worryingly close in the 58th minute, with James Peters heading wide of the post from almost point blank range. On the hour mark an awkward challenge saw both Braithwaite and Cookman pick up a yellow, but unfortunately Braithwaite was already booked, the centre back walked.

United began to use their one man advantage effectively, forcing Green to soak up the pressure. Nevertheless, the away side still managed to break through and create chances, the biggest one being another miss for James Peters in the 74th minute. Ten minutes later Imad Abbasi entered the game for Green, and within 60 seconds he had the ball in the back of the net, but he was offside and it was disallowed.

Just before full time, Abbasi was in again, this time setting up fellow substitute Billy Smith, but Green couldn't quite find the winner.

In the first minute of injury time there was another awkward tackle, causing both Alozie and Beckwith to see red.

The win could have gone to the away side in the 97th minute through a Ross Scotney free kick, but Green held out and the match ended with a point going to each team.

Next up, an away trip to St Margaretsbury on 29/03/2014.
