Report by Kevin Salter

After the tough encounter at the weekend against Sandy Ladies, The Whites faced the ultimate challenge against the run away league leaders and once again came out honours even.

Levy Green Whites began the match kicking up the slope and the game soon settled into a pattern of competitive end to end football with both sides giving maximum commitment and effort to their own teams cause.

Levy Green probably had the better of the goal scoring opportunities in the 1st half, but it was St Martins who took the lead on 30 minutes when they squeezed the ball home at the near post. Both defences continued to be on top for the remainder of the half with Emma and Leigh looking commanding and impressive in their centre back roles.

With a half time scoreline of 0-1, Levy saw themselves as very much in the game and kicking down the slope in the 2nd period looked the more offensive side and after a sustained period of pressure a penalty was awarded for a hand ball in the box, Ellen Salter stepped up and drove her shot straight down the middle for a deserved equaliser.

With a win being the only realistic result to keep Levy's title dream alive, Leigh was moved out of the back four and into midfield and unfortunately minutes later St Martins exploited the gap at the back and once again took the lead on 70 minutes. Levy kept creating chances and both Cally and Natasha had good opportunities to level the scoreline, but couldn't find the net.

Not to be deterred the Whites regathered themselves and threw everything at St Martins and with 4 minutes left a superb Ellen Salter corner was met with a thunderous header by Cally Salter, her 2nd in 2 matches, to equalise and set up a barnstorming finish.

Both sides gave their all across the pitch and the game was played in great spirit and ultimately a draw was the fairest result.

This still leaves The Whites with an outside chance of the League Title, needing Bishops Stortford to get something out of their match with St Martins at the weekend, but Levy much now turn their attention to the League Cup Semi Final this Sunday against St Albans City Ladies.
