A battle-hardened Levy Green Whites took on and beat the League leaders of division 1 in a thrilling encounter at London Colney.

After the tough draws against Sandy and St Martins in the last 7 days, the last thing the Whites needed was another huge battle on the hottest day of the year so far, but that is what they got & once more they rose to the challenge.

Levy Whites kicked up hill in the first half and whilst the game was an even encounter The Whites had the better chances to open the scoreline, however St Albans were always a threat and but for a fine diving save from Rebecca Fearns in goal, the Whites could have gone into the break 1 nil down.

As it was the 1st half finished nil nil and battle resumed once more with Levy kicking down the slope and taking the game to St Albans in the opening minutes with both Ellen and Frankie threatening down the flanks. Cally and Mia had their hands full in centre midfield and both players had to put in huge shifts to keep St Albans at bay, meanwhile the back line of Ellie P, Leigh, Emma and Laura played fantastically as a unit and on the whole restricted the home side to some limited longer range efforts.

As the game wore on and the heat began to tell on both sides, the match became a war of attrition and survival of the fittest and with 10 minutes to go, the introduction of the recently rested Frankie, Anna and Pru gave the Whites the impetus to take the match to St Albans.

After knocking on the door for a few minutes the ball finally broke to Pru on the left hand edge of the box and a calm, cultured finish into the top left hand corner gave the Whites a 1 nil lead on 89 minutes.

A quick formation reshuffle saw Anna drop back into midfield to see the game out and shortly after the referee blew the final whistle for a memorable win over a team currently riding high, unbeaten all season at the top of division 1.

Once more the Whites continue to confound expectation and set new standards and with the bonus of Bishops Stortford beating arch rivals St Martins in the league, the League and cup double dream is still in their own hands.
