Match Report
Tuesday 9th September 2014 Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division
Leverstock Green (0) 0
Wembley (1) 2 Walters 10, Wright 74
at Pancake Lane

Leverstock Green fell to a second league defeat within four days, although there was not much to choose between them and Wembley in last night's match at Pancake Lane. The difference between the sides ultimately proved to be two poor goals conceded from corners.

As in Saturday's game at Tring, Leverstock fell behind early on. In the 10th minute a corner was played low into the six-yard box, and any one of three players could have finished it off but it was Wayne Walters who shot home the opener.

The Green almost equalised direct from a corner on 15 minutes, but Paul Somers' cross was tipped over the bar by keeper Bart Fogler. The subsequent corner also caused problems as it found Sledge Mubama, who put the ball back across goal but Callum Wright couldn't force it home.

Wembley should have had a second on 23 minutes when Gavin Smith gave the ball away to leave Yassin Fehmi-Gil clean through, but his lob over Kieran Jimmy landed wide of the goal. Three minutes later a pass from James Sears put Wright through, but his shot was straight at Fogler. On 29 minutes a cross from Jimmy Talbot was headed back across goal by Wright, but Louis Bircham's effort was wide. Dan Lake had a good attempt from distance on 38 minutes, but his dipping shot was just wide.

Wembley had another great chance to increase their lead five minutes into the second half, but Fehmi-Gil headed over the bar when Joe Wright's cross found him at point-blank range. They were unlucky on 63 minutes when a curling free kick from Ian Bates cannoned off the post.

Leverstock worked hard in the second half, but didn't create as many chances as their possession merited. On 68 minutes Lake and Timi Salako combined down the right wing, and Salako's cross had to be headed over by Bates. Four minutes later Somers had a great chance but headed over the bar from Salako's cross.

The game could have gone either way, but Wembley finally added their second in the 74th minute. Leverstock had a couple of chances to clear a corner to the far post, but the ball fell at the feet of Joe Wright, who could hardly miss from a couple of yards out as he smashed the ball home.

Leverstock turn their attention back to the FA Cup on Saturday, when they visit divisional rivals Biggleswade United in the First Round Qualifying - the first time the Green have ever reached this far in the tournament.
