Sunday 14th September 2014 Eastern Region Womens League Premier Division
Brentwood Town (1) 2 Armstrong 43, Manning 58
Leverstock Green Ladies (0) 1 Coggins 71
at The Len Forge Centre, Southend

Leverstock Green Ladies came up against a powerful Brentwood Town side in the Eastern Region Premier Division, and almost rescued the game from 2-0 down with a spirited late rally, but came up just short in the end.

The speed of the Brentwood forward line caused a few problems for the Green Army in the first half, and in the 3rd minute Danielle Buttler was clean through, but shot wide of the Levy goal. In the 12th minute Sapphire Kalinski was booked for a shirt pull, and from the resulting free kick Lucy Faraday shot just wide.

The Levy side began to play their way into the game, and on 16 minutes Nicola Hollick crossed for Joanne Williams, whose shot was charged down. Three minutes later Williams' pass put Ellen Salter through on goal, but her first touch was heavy and allowed the keeper to come out and block.

In the 20th minute Brentwood threatended again when Buttler was through, but Green keeper Andrea Bettridge came off her line and saved with her feet to keep the game scoreless. The Green goal led a charmed life for a few minutes as Sarah Brydon had to clear off the line, and somehow Sophie Lovell's header from a corner was kept out on 25 minutes.

A corner from Lucy Tape caused a scramble in the Brentwood penalty area on 28 minutes, but no-one could put the ball away, and a fine shot from Gemma Coggins was inches wide in the 42nd minute. However, Brentwood finally found the Green net a minute later with a fierce shot from Rachel Armstrong.

Three minutes into the second half there was another good chance for Leverstock when Natasha Sherriff put Hollick through, but Hollick tried to take the ball around the keeper and was dispossessed.

Bettridge pulled off a good save to turn a shot from Lovell round the post on 57 minutes, but from the resulting corner a header from Nicole Manning found the back of the net to put Brentwood 2-0 up.

The game looked over, but the Levy side kept battling and pulled a goal back on 71 minutes. Natalie Burrows crossed to the far post and Coggins met it with an excellent header into the net. The Brentwood side was now looking worried, and most of the remainder of the game was played in their half as the Green Army applied the pressure, but they were unable to complete the comeback and ended up on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline.
