Leverstock Green fell to a third straight league defeat as their poor run of results continued. In truth there wasn't much to choose between the two sides today, but two second half goals inside a minute were enough for Hoddesdon Town to clinch the points.

Leverstock were without Elias Moses and James Sears due to suspension. Top scorer Louis Bircham has departed, and second highest scorer Callum Wright was injured in the warm-up and took no part in the game. There were three new signings in the Green squad, with David Lawrence, Tommy Walsh and Alex Nolan all making their debuts.

The first half saw few chances for either side. Hoddesdon had a chance on a quick breakaway in the 13th minute when a ball over the top from Ike Nzuruba released Marvin Malebiosu, but he ran on to shoot wide. On 39 minutes a cross from Malebiosu was just over the head of Nzuruba at the far post. Hoddesdon had a spell of pressure in the last few minutes of the half, but the teams went into the break with the game still goalless.

The start of the second half saw Leverstock's best spell of the game as they pressed the home side into their own half and got some good balls into the box, but still couldn't force a save out of keeper Richard Robins. The Green's best move of the match came in the 62 minute when they broke from a Hoddesdon corner with Ishmael Thomas getting the ball away to Dene Gardner, who quickly released Sledge Mubama down the right. Mubama's cross found the head of Nathan Jellow, but he couldn't direct it on target.

Leverstock defended well for the most part, but two goals in a minute saw their hard work go to waste. In the 64th minute a cross from the left was met by Kambo Smith, whose glancing header went in off the far post. The second goal a minute later was another header as Kevin Makayabo came in at the near post unchallenged to head home a free kick.

After that Leverstock rarely looked like getting back into the game, and they were denied even a consolation goal in stoppage time by a goalline clearance.

Next up for Leverstock is a home tie in the second round of the Herts Senior Cup against Ryman League side Ware on Tuesday night, before a home game against improving Ampthill Town next Saturday, which is starting to look like a six-pointer.
