Match Report
Saturday 14th March 2015 Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division
Hertford Town (1) 2 Hardy 22, Watson 61
Leverstock Green (0) 1 Walsh 71
at Hertingfordbury Park

Leverstock Green suffered yet another defeat, but they put up a good display against Hertford Town on Saturday, and probably deserved to get something out of the game.

After early pressure from the home side, Leverstock created a chance in the 12th minute when Nathan Jallow got away down the left and pulled the ball back for Carl McCluskey, who shot wide.

However, it was Hertford who took the lead in the 22nd minute when Jordon Watson's ball into the box found Sion Hardy, who shot home into the corner of the net.

Kieran Jimmy kept Leverstock in the game with a good save on 34 minutes, getting down low to save Jason Beck's header from a Leigh Rose corner. Two minutes later the Green thought they had equalised. Mark Woolley chipped the ball into the box for Callum Wright, who laid off sideways for McCluskey to score, only to be flagged offside.

Leigh Rose could have added a second for Hertford on 39 minutes when he had a free header at the far post, but Jimmy kept it out. A minute before the break there was another chance for Leverstock when Woolley played the ball into the box again, but Jallow's goalbound shot was deflected over the bar by a defender's leg.

Leverstock attacked straight from the second half kick-off, with McCluskey setting up a chance for Tommy Walsh which he hit straight at the keeper inside 20 seconds. There was still little to choose between the sides, but a second Hertford goal on 61 minutes turned the match strongly in their favour. The Green side switched off from a throw-in, and Watson was put through on goal. Jimmy came off his line quickly, but Watson clipped the ball over him and followed up to tap the ball home.

The game wasn't over yet, though, as Leverstock pulled a goal back on 71 minutes. Callum Wright ran onto a pass from Jimmy Talbot, beating the offside trap. Wright took the ball round the keeper and was forced wide, but managed to put it across goal for Tommy Walsh to finish and pull the score back to 2-1.

Leverstock continued to push forward, but couldn't find an equaliser over the closing minutes. The closest they came was in the 79th minute when McCluskey made a powerful run into the box, but was denied by a tackle from Kardan Campbell before he could shoot.

Next up for the Green is a crucial game against Holmer Green at Pancake Lane on Tursday night.
