Leverstock Green were on the end of a thumping from a strong Hemel Hempstead Town side in Tuesday night's St Mary's Cup semi-final. The Green side at least avoided a double-figure scoreline, which looked unlikely at half-time with Hemel having already scored seven.

Leverstock started the game brightly, and had the first shot and first corner of the game, but once Luke Allen shot Hemel into the lead from the edge of the box in the 11th minute it was only going to go one way.

Within two minutes James Potton put Dennis Oli through to slot home the second, and the third came in the 19th minute from Zane Banton, scoring at the second attempt after Dan McNicholas had saved his first shot. James Potton walked home the fourth goal two minutes later, and scored his second on 25 minutes with a shot that went in off the post.

Oliver Hawkins headed home a simple 6th on 30 minutes, before Hemel keeper Laurie Walker had to make his first save of the night, tipping over a shot from Louis Bircham. Carl McCluskey and Callum Wright both had shots blocked from the resulting corner. However, the Leverstock spell of pressure was short-lived as Nicke Kabamba ran through to score the seventh on 39 minutes.

Matty Harriot floated a free kick over the wall for the eighth goal on 52 minutes, and Hawkins headed home his second four minutes later. With nine goals on the board and still more than 30 minutes to go it looked bleak for Leverstock, but they held out for the rest of the game, and were unlucky three minutes from time when a great shot from Bircham struck the bar.

Hemel go onto face Tring Athletic in the final, while Leverstock finish their season with a home game against London Tigers on Saturday.
