Match Report
Thursday 24th September 2015 FA Youth Cup 1st Qualifying Round
Boreham Wood (1) 1 Barker 21
Leverstock Green (0) 0
at Meadow Park

Leverstock Green's under-18s went out of the FA Youth Cup on Thursday night, but they left the pitch with their heads held high after an excellent display at Boreham Wood. A single goal proved enough for the home side, but the Green side came close to finding the net on several occasions.

Boreham Wood had a chance in the 2nd minute when a ball from the halfway line put Alfie Barker through on goal, but Mark Berg made the first of many great saves to deny him. A minute later at the other end Leverstock striker Kieran Domeney intercepted a short back pass and was clean through, but he too was denied by a good save.

The only goal of the match came in the 21st minute from a well-worked free kick routine which saw Barker shoot home. Leverstock had plenty of the ball and had several promising situations around the Boreham Wood box, but the closest they came to levelling before the break was in the 43rd minute when Freddie Hudson's header from Stanley Hambridge's free kick was saved, and Hudson put the rebound into the side netting.

The home side's fitness began to tell in the second half as they had a number of chances to extend their lead, but Berg pulled off at least five top-class saves to keep them out, the best of them in the 77th minute when he stretched to prevent a lob going over his head.

In the 79th minute Leverstock had a great chance to level the scores when a great ball from Hudson found George King inside the box. King did well to spin away from a defender and get a shot away, but it was was saved. Two minutes later Jonathan Lacey put the ball right across the face of the Boreham Wood goal, but nobody could get on the end of it and it was cleared by a defender.

Leverstock deserved a goal for their efforts, but it was not to be on the night, and Boreham Wood progressed to the Second Qualifying Round.
