Leverstock Green's run of defeats continued in extraordinary fashion as they went from 3-0 up to 3-4 down against Wembley within the space of 20 minutes. Up until Wembley scored their first goal it had been an excellent performance, but the collapse that followed was alarming.

Leverstock started the game strongly, and had early chances. In the 3rd minute Joe Horwood came in to meet a Louis Bircham corner at the far post but couldn't force the ball home. In the 9th minute Jack Gilmartin's pass put Curtis Donaldson through, but his shot went across the face of goal. A minute later Bircham was clean through, but didn't catch his shot properly and the keeper saved.

Finally in the 13th minute a quick ball forward put Donaldson through on goal. His shot was parried by the keeper, but Bircham followed up to head home the rebound and put the Green 1-0 up. In the 21st minute it became 2-0 when Bircham swung in a free kick and Reece McArthur headed home.

Wembley then had a couple of chances. On 24 minutes Calvin Kasirye turned away away from a defender and hit a shot from distance that cannoned off the post. Two minutes later Kasirye's pass put Joe Wright through, and the Wembley forward looked certain to score as he picked his spot in front of goal, but McArthur came in with a superb last-ditch challenge to deny him.

There were further chances for Leverstock as both Bircham and Chris Blunden got in behind the defence, but couldn't put the ball away. In the last minute of the half there was another chance for Wembley as Billy Smith's pass put Kasirye through on goal, but Leverstock keeper Jack Laney, making his first team debut, deflected the shot wide with his legs.

Leverstock were well worth their 2-0 half time lead, and four minutes into the second half it became 3-0 when Bircham put Blunden through on goal and he finished emphatically with a fierce shot.

Bircham was clear of the defence again on 58 minutes from Lee Faulkner's pass, but took too long over his shot and it was blocked. There was a heated moment just after the hour involving McArthur and Wembley's veteran Ian Bates which saw both players escape with a yellow card when it could have been more.

McArthur was substituted shortly afterwards, but not before Wembley had pulled a goal back on 64 minutes. Wright was through on goal, and Laney came racing out to the edge of the box to meet him with a challenge that might have conceded a penalty, but Wright recovered the ball and lifted it over Laney into the empty net.

The goal offered a glimmer of a chance to Wembley, but with the Leverstock defence suddenly losing its composure it became much more as they put the pressure on. Within two minutes Wayne Walters was close to pulling another goal back but his effort went across goal and just wide. On 69 minutes Adam Humphries crossed to the far post where Billy Smith came in to head home a second Wembley goal.

Two minutes later Yassine Fehmi-Gil looked set to score the equaliser in a goalmouth scramble but Faulkner cleared off the line. However, it was only delaying the inevitable, as Leverstock again struggled to clear the ball from their own box and Kasirye shot home the equaliser on 74 minutes.

Having thrown away their lead in ten minutes, Leverstock had a chance to go back in front on 82 minutes when Bircham was through again, but his attempted lob was pushed away by the keeper.

The question was now whether Leverstock could at least hang on for a point, and the answer was no. On 84 minutes a Wembley cross to the far post looked to be no danger as it fell for Damien Cruickshank, but his attempt to trap the ball only ended up putting it on a plate for Billy Smith, and the former Green player was in no mood to miss from two yards out and blasted home the winner to cap a spectacular comeback by his side.

This was a bitter blow for Paul Faulkner's side, but they have to pick themselves up again for the visit of FC Broxbourne Borough on Tuesday night, when two new signings will be available to boost the squad.
