Leverstock Green took another huge step towards safety with an emphatic 5-0 win over Biggleswade United, who have been one of the division's form teams over the past few months. The scoreline was fully deserved as Leverstock dominated the game from start to finish and took their goals well.

The result was all the more remarkable given that Leverstock went into the game with several first team regulars missing through illness or injury, and had four players making their debuts, two in the starting line-up and two from the bench.

Leverstock should have been in front in the 4th minute when a pass from Lewis Cruwys put Curtis Donaldson through on goal, but his shot was saved by Biggleswade keeper Adam Counihan, and the follow-up effort was blocked. However, two minutes later Ryan Laville put over a cross which visiting defender Nyasha Sagwete tried to clear, but only succeeded in sending the ball looping into the air. As it came down, Counihan didn't challenge for the ball and Cruwys got a head to it to put the Green 1-0 up.

Biggleswade showed little as an attacking force, and their only sight of goal in the first half came on 17 minutes when James Cooper's pass set up Mohammed Hasheh for a shot, but it was always curling away from goal. Five minutes later Leverstock doubled their lead when Donaldson floated a corner to the far post and Alex McCarthy came in to head home.

Leverstock came close to adding a third goal in the 33rd minute when Donaldson's rabona cross found Cruwys at the far post, but his header hit the post. Ollie Buckley had a shot from the rebound but that too hit the post. Buckley had another effort from the edge of the box on 39 minutes but Counihan saved.

It was 2-0 to the Green at the break, and they picked up where they had left off in the second half. On 51 minutes a cross from Dan Hartley, who had an excellent debut, caused chaos in the visitors' six yard box and McCarthy forced the ball over the line for the third Leverstock goal, the linesman flagging for the goal despite Counihan's attempt to palm it away.

Five minutes later a cross from Cruwys almost produced another goal as defender Lee Bilcock sliced the ball inches over his own crossbar. However, on 59 minutes there was another fine Leverstock move. Laville played the ball out wide to Donaldson, who crossed to the far post where Cruwys had an unchallenged header to put his side 4-0 up.

The same players combined again for the fifth Leverstock goal on 65 minutes. Donaldson crossed to the far post, where Laville laid it back for Cruwys to slot home neatly into the corner of the net to complete his hat-trick.

That was it for the scoring, although Liam Jahn had to produce a couple of good saves late in the game to preserve his clean sheet, having had little to do up to that point thanks to his defence closing the opposition down so well.

Manager Paul Hunt was very pleased with the performance, praising his team's work rate and the fact that they have taken on board everything the management team has been impressing on them. His side have now reached the psychologically important milestone of 30 points, but Hunt says they have got to keep going, especially on Tuesday night when they have another crucial six-pointer away to Colney Heath.
