Saturday 16th April 2016 Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division
Wembley (2) 2 Skelton 1, Pritchard 33
Leverstock Green (0) 0
at Vale Farm

Leverstock Green manager was "very, very disappointed" with his side as they fell to a defeat at Wembley in Saturday's SSML Premier Division fixture. The Leverstock side created plenty of chances, but couldn't put any of them away, and two sloppy goals conceded in the first half sealed their fate.

The home side took the lead in the opening minute as Leverstock gave the ball away and Paul Skelton was played through to score. Having conceded the early goal, Leverstock then started playing well and creating chances. Ollie Buckley and Ashley Addison both had shots turned around the post by the keeper, and in the 17th minute Dan Bourne was put through on goal, only for his shot to be turned wide by the keeper as well.

However, Wembley were still looking dangerous on the counter-attack, and had a couple of near-misses themselves before adding a second goal in the 33rd minute. A cross from the left was pushed away by Liam Jahn, but Daniel Pritchard was unmarked at the far post and put away the rebound.

The first half ended with Leverstock still continuing to pepper the Wembley goal with shots, but none of them were on target.

The second half played out in a similar fashion with Leverstock having more of the ball, but creating fewer chances, often due to a poor final ball or a reluctance to shoot when the opprtunity presented itself. It took until the 68th minute for Curtis Donaldson to hit an effort that went just wide of the post.

At the other end Wembley were often caught offside on their counter-attacks, but Jahn had to pull off a good save with his legs to deny Yassine Fehmi-Gil in the 79th minute. Four minutes from time Timi Salako was just wide with a shot, and a minute later Donaldson had a run at goal but his eventual shot was straight at the keeper as Leverstock continued to seek a late recovery.

Leverstock have four games remaining, all of them at home, and three more points should end any lingering fears of relegation. Today was the last game of the season for Ollie Buckley, who is going travelling to the far east. It was also a significant game for Wembley, as their stalwart Ian "Basher" Bates clocked up his 1000th appearance for the club, and was substituted to an ovation in the last minute.
