Leverstock Green's under-18 side found the challenge of Luton Town Cedars too much for them in Thursday night's Colwyn Cup final at Leighton Town F.C.

The Green side made a good start to the match. In the opening minute Jack Stevens won the ball in midfield and played a one-two with Jonathan Lacey, but his shot was turned round the post.

However, Luton took the lead in the 7th minute when the speedy Ezra Forde got round the outside of the Green defence and pulled the ball back for Luke Stanton to score from close range. The pace of Forde caused problems again in the 21st minute as he got away from the defence and laid off for Stanton to score with a shot that Leverstock keeper Mark Berg will feel he could have done better with.

Berg made several good saves after that to keep the score at 2-0 before a remarkable Leverstock fightback late in the half. Two minutes before half time Alex Payne floated a free kick into the box and Jake Williamson got up to head home and reduce the arrears to 2-1. Three minutes into stoppage time Leverstock were awarded a free kick in a dangerous position just outside the box, and Payne made the most of it with a stunning shot into the top corner to send the sides into the break level at 2-2.

The second half promised much, but once Stanton had been allowed the space to shoot home a third goal from distance in the 52nd minute it became rather one-sided, even after Luton had been reduced to ten men by a red card two minutes later.

Forde scored the 4th in the 62nd minute, shooting home the rebound after a shot had come back off the bar, and further clinical goals in the 69th and 78th minutes left a final score of 6-2.

The two sides meet again on Monday, this time in the final of the Brian Hitchings Cup, which is being played at Luton Town's Kenilworth Road ground, kick-off 7:30 pm.
