Green exit Shield on penalties

21/07/12: Herts Charity Shield 1st Round

Leverstock Green 2 Welwyn Garden City 2 (3-5 on penalties)

Leverstock Green's run in this season's Herts Charity Shield ended at the first hurdle as they went out to Welwyn Garden City. The Green came from behind twice to force a 2-2 draw but the visitors took the tie on penalties.

Welwyn had the best of the early exchanges but Green slowly took hold with their flowing passing and Kris Tyrell was unlucky shooting just over. James Dabbs was next to show but his shot was inches wide. Adam Hallissey then forced the keeper to push his shot behind for a corner and Curt Dizon shot over.

The game was goalless at half time and Welwyn made a couple of substitutions for the second half. With 66 mins gone Ade Osobu was gifted the ball just outside the 18 yard box and made no mistake with his shot. Within a minute Green were back on terms when Ross Miller unleashed a shot from 40 yards out. Welwyn regained their lead through Brett Leader on 88 mins but Dabbs was on hand on 90 mins to force the tie to penalty kicks.

Green's first kick was saved by the keeper and as Welwyn scored all their five kicks they won the tie.
