Saturday's friendly roundup

Leverstock Green 1 Eton Manor 2

Leverstock Green gave a promising performance in their second pre-season friendly, but a late mistake at the back saw them end up on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline against Eton Manor at Pancake Lane on Saturday.

The visitors took the lead in the 26th minute with an excellent shot from the left edge of the penalty area into the top corner of the net. Leverstock went close to equalising with two chances in quick succession. On 34 minutes Luke Warner-Eley's free kick was headed wide by Liam Hind, and two minutes later Hind's pass put Warner-Eley through on goal. The Manor keeper parried away Warner-Eley's shot and the rebound just eluded Callum Wright.

The Green line-up was unchanged at the start of the second half, but seven changes were made over the course of the half. The Leverstock equaliser came in the 49th minute from Callum Wright, who robbed a defender and ran through to shoot home.

Wright could have got a second four minutes later when a great pass from Billy Smith put him through, but a defender got back to block his shot wide. Leverstock had much the better of the second half and played plenty of good football, but their finishing was off-target.

A mix-up between keeper and defender allowed the visitors to score a tap-in in the 89th minute. Leverstock could have had an instant equaliser when Ricardo Ramos burst through, but his shot was inches wide of the post. In the end a very good workout for Dene Gardner's side, with only the result lacking.

Starting team: Kieron Jimmy, Tim Salako, Luke Warner-Eley, Dean Kemp, Gavin Smith, Lee Gardner, Joseph Oseyemi, Mark Woolley, Callum Wright, Liam Hind, Luke Wells. Subs: Billy Smith (for Wells 48'), Lewis Craze (for Warner-Eley 55'), Dan Lake (for Salako 58'), Luis Almeida (for Kemp 65'), Ricardo Ramos (for Wright 65'), Ricky Dash (for Woolley 72'), Dan McNicholas (for Jimmy 72').

Earlier in the afternoon, Leverstock's reserve side drew 1-1 with Hillingdon F.C. After a season away, the reserve side has returned under new manager James Hall. The Green side took the lead midway through the second half with a penalty from Dean Ryan, but the visitors levelled from a corner late in the game.
