Rain halts reserves game

Torrential rain and a deteriorating pitch caused the abandonment of Leverstock Green Reserves' home match against Hartley Wintney on Saturday afternoon. The Pancake Lane pitch was in fine condition before the game, but the match opened in heavy rain.

The visitors took the lead in the 5th minute, but as the half wore on and the rain continued, it was becoming increasingly hard for either side to play football with the ball holding up in several areas. The rain temporarily stopped just before half time, but soon started again in the second half. Leverstock equalised just after the hour with a scrambled goal that was probably an own goal. As the rain became even heavier and puddles started to form all over the pitch, eventually the referee had no choice but to call a halt with 16 minutes remaining.
