Green win opening friendly

Leverstock Green opened their pre-season campaign with a 5-1 win over Herts County League side Evergreen in a friendly played on the 3G pitch at Parmiters Sports Centre.

Sledge Mubama put Leverstock ahead after 5 minutes, applying a neat finish to a square ball into the box.

A mix-up at the back allowed Evergreen to equalise, but the Green side restored their lead in the 18th minute through Casey Linsell's shot from a narrow angle. Mubama scored his second of the game in first half stoppage time, heading home a corner to make the score 3-1 going into the break.

There was a different line-up for the second half, and it only took two minutes for Leverstock to extend their lead as Nathan Jallow was set up for an easy finish to make it 4-1. Louis Bircham added the fifth just after the hour with a excellent shot.

There were plenty of other chances for the Green side, but no further goals. Billy Smith in particular was unlucky not to add his name to the scoresheet with several near-misses. It was an impressive display on a warm afternoon in Paul Faulkner's first game in charge. Next up is a game against North Greenford United at Pancake Lane on Tuesday night, kick-off 6.45 pm.
