Double-header win for Green sides

Leverstock Green played a double header pre-season friendly against New Bradwell St Peter at Pancake Lane on Saturday afternoon. Both games provided good entertainment for the spectators and were useful workouts for both sides.

Reserve team match:

Leverstock Green 7 New Bradwell St Peter 1

This game was goalless at half time, but a penalty ten minutes into the second half from Curtis Donaldson opened the scoring for Leverstock. Chris Bell scored the second with a lob over the keeper on 62 minutes, and two goals in quick succession in the 74th and 75th minutes from Bell and Ryan Luke made it 4-0 to Leverstock. Another two quick-fire goals came in the 83rd and 84th minutes as Donaldson finished a well-worked 5th goal and Luke scored his second to make it 6-0. The visitors pulled a goal back two minutes later, but there was still time for Ryan Luke to complete his hat-trick to complete a final score of 7-1 for Paul Hunt's side.

First team match:

Leverstock Green 4 New Bradwell St Peter 2

Leverstock opened the scoring in the 14th minute with an excellent goal, as Jon Davies played a precision pass to put Billy Smith through on goal to slot home. Four minutes later a dinked pass from Louis Bircham gave Callum Wright a run at goal, and he sidestepped the last defender before steering the ball into the bottom corner. A slip at the back on the stroke of half time allowed the visitors' no 10 to take the ball around Jordan I'Anson and pull the score back to 2-1.

Good work by Chris Blunden set up Luke Preedy to run through and score the third goal on 61 minutes, and there should have been a fourth straight after as Blunden set up a great chance for Nathan Jallow, only for the striker to slip over at the vital moment. Jallow eventually added his name to the scoresheet on 77 minutes as he ran through to find the net despite the keeper getting a hand to his shot.

New Bradwell pulled at back to 4-2 as they scored from a free kick on 84 minutes. Leverstock could have added to their score, but Bircham hit a shot which came back off the inside of the post, and Wright put the ball over the bar from a yard out. It was a well-deserved win for Paul Faulkner's side.
