With the first team not in action today, Leverstock Green's reserves took centre stage with a home game against Leighton Town in the Suburban League. It looked early on as though the Green side was in for a long afternoon as Leighton quickly went into a 3-1 lead, but a much better second half display produced a host of chances for Leverstock and they were unlucky not to pull at least one goal back.
Leighton opened the scoring from a corner in the 7th minute as Greg Noel headed home. The lead only lasted two minutes, as a ball into the box found Chad Pinching, who turned away from defender Paul Blackwell before neatly slotting past keeper Jake Robertson for the equaliser.
However, Leighton soon regained their lead. On 14 minutes Ray Fasida ran into the box from a narrow angle and hit a shot which was cleared off the line, but Dan Chambers followed up to net the rebound. Seven minutes later a through ball found Tyler Buckley, who produced a skilful finish for a 3-1 Leighton lead. Chambers could have added a fourth in the 26th minute but shot into the side netting.
The second half was a different story as Leverstock pushed forward and had all the chances. Joel Norris had three attempts at goal in the opening ten minutes, the best of them when he ran onto a pass from Ryan Fahy and shot just wide.
Substitute Sean Biswell hit the post with a shot three minutes after coming off the bench, and second sub Sam Flood had even more of an impact. On 68 minutes Flood struck a free kick from 25 yards which hit the bar and the post, and eight minutes later hit a dipping shot from 30 yards which again hit the bar.
Four minutes from time Ryan Fahy hit a shot which was heading for the net until Robertson produced a great save to turn it wide, and two minutes later Ross Miller put Flood through on goal, but his shot was just wide of the post.
A game which had been getting increasingly niggly during the second half ended on a sour note when Leighton sub Brandon Graham was sent off for kicking out at Miller in stoppage time, and three Green players were booked as the situation threatened to boil over.
