Leverstock Green's losing run extended to six games on a miserably wet afternoon at Pancake Lane. The performance was a bit of a disappointment coming after the encouraging display at Oxhey Jets in midweek, the Green side simply didn't create enough chances in this game and fell to two second half goals.
Leverstock certainly created the better chances in the first half. On 19 minutes a pass from James Dabbs put Max Onambele through on goal, but he slipped his shot just wide. On 26 minutes Myles Scott and Junior Bushiri combined on the right to set up Adiel Mannion, who ran into the box from a narrow angle but saw his shot saved by the keeper.
Four minutes later Mannion had another chance thanks to a great ball from Harrison Carr, but again the keeper saved his shot. Harefield didn't really have a clear sight of goal until five minutes before the break when Mo Hashi found Mark Sargeant on the edge of the box, but his shot was well off-target.
In a surprising move at half time, Green manager Steve Benitez made a triple substitution, bringing on Tobi Akin, Marvin Tabi and Jamie Davidge in place of Scott, Bushiri and Onambele. The side now had three forwards on the pitch, but still found the Harefield defence difficult to break down.
The visitors took the lead in the 57th minute, and it was a poor goal from the Green perspective as Ryan Egan came in unmarked at the near post to stab home a low cross from a corner.
The Leverstock substitutes almost combined for an equaliser seven minutes later as Tabi set up Davidge for a cross which went just over the head of Akin. Three minutes later Davidge had a shot turned round the post after a patient build-up.
For the most part though there was a lack of urgency, lots of passing around the box but little actual threat. Harefield themselves didn't have a lot to offer, but a breakaway goal in stoppage time from Sargeant gave the final scoreline a rather flattering look.
