Leverstock Green were beaten 1-0 by neighbours Kings Langley in Saturday's friendly played on the all-weather surface at Parmiter's Sports Centre, Watford. With both sides having been out of action for several weeks due to the freezing weather, this was a chance to get some match practice in before a probable return to competitive action next week. This was billed as a friendly, but with so many former teammates on both sides, there was always going to be something of an edge to it.
Green had early chances with Gary Connolly and Lewis Pritchard going close in the opening ten minutes. On 20 minutes they had their best chance when Matt Wardle's pass put Pritchard through, but the keeper came out to save. Carl Tasker had to make a good close-range save at the other end on 37 minutes to keep the game scoreless. The first half was curtailed by five minutes due to a nasty injury sustained by Pritchard, who came down hard on the surface after a collision with the keeper. He was taken to hospital with a dislocated shoulder and probable concussion.
Leverstock had another good chance five minutes into the second half when Dale Sears' cross found Ryan Fahy inside the six-yard box, but the youngster put his effort across goal and wide. Kings Langley took the lead just before the hour, taking advantage of a dreadfully loose pass in the Green defence. On 72 minutes a great ball from the back from Fahy put Jamie Sharples through on goal, but the keeper made another great save. Green had another chance to level the scores from the penalty spot on 78 minutes after a foul on Simon Conway, but Lee Bircham's kick was saved, and Sharples put the rebound wide.
Green's starting line-up was: Carl Tasker, Lee Bircham, Louis West, Dale Sears, Bekim Culaj, Simon Conway, Richard Harvey, Andrew Cracknell, Gary Connolly, Matt Wardle, Lewis Pritchard. Also used: Ryan Fahy, Daniel Griggs, Mark Welling, Jamie Sharples, Lee Johnson, Joe Cooper.
